Gift Graduation Money Tree

It is typical for a graduate to have a party, celebrating all of their life and academic accomplishments. These parties, often called open houses, are for family members and friends to gather and to spend time with the graduate, celebrating their hard work and accomplishments. There is usually a large assortment of food and appetizers, drinks and a cake with some sort of inscription that recognizes the graduate. In addition, the partygoers often bring gifts for the graduating senior.

These gifts can run the range from the simple to the complex. Usually, however, friends and family bring gifts of money and gift certificates. This is because the graduate is usually an older teenager or a young adult. These people are not as much in need of material possessions, and are preparing to embark upon a new phase of their life. Therefore, it is customary for them to receive gifts of cash or other currency.

One newer tradition that has sprung up in the graduation part tradition is the use of a money tree. A money tree is a display where friends and family can put gift of cards, checks and cash for the happy graduate. It is a fun way to display one’s presents where all can see, and where everyone can contribute.

For younger graduates, these monetary gifts will be used or the next phase of their life. Often, graduates are relocating to a new town or city for a brand new job. Other times, graduates may be continuing in a job that came out of an internship from college. However, they still have to move out of their small, cramped campus housing and find a home in a larger apartment near family, friends, or their place of employment. In both cases, the gifts for the graduate will be used to furnish and stock a brand new household. Items that were not needed in the campus dorms will most certainly be needed now.

For the graduate student who is completing a higher degree program, the funds received from their party may be used for household expenses. Again, the need for relocation may come about. Or, they may not need to relocate, but some basic household needs have to be taken care of. For some graduate students, the thought of a new, non-student wardrobe or a short, much needed vacation will be how their gifts are used. A money tree helps the graduate display the resources they will use in the next phase of their life.
